Cricket in Jersey
The Facilities . . .

Through the local authority, Education, Sport and Culture, Jersey is fortunate to have excellent, well maintained cricket facilities which service the local cricket community and visiting cricketers.

There are 5 grass squares, four of which have NTP’s (non-turf pitches) on them, and two separate stand alone NTP’s. 2 grounds have NTP nets. All the grass squares have covers and sightscreens together with changing and catering facilities. All groundstaff are fully trained and properly equipped to maintain the facilities.

The Farmers Cricket Club have recently established their own private ground with a grass pitch and pavilion.

There are 6 Sports halls used in the winter months for coaching activities and competitions.

There are 27 clubs, some running up to 3 teams, in Jersey and League cricket is played at weekends and in the evenings. The Jersey Island Cricket Club entertains visiting teams from the UK and elsewhere including the MCC on their annual Channel Island tour. Schools cricket is played through the week and at weekends.

Indoor cricket is played in the winter months.

The premier ground at Grainville provides a good cricket arena and the ECB staged The Women’s ODI Tri- series there in 2002 with teams from England, India and New Zealand.

Jersey has a well established cricket structure in place with a local governing body, coaching and umpiring associations (both with Education programmes and tutors), a Development officer and Junior cricket bodies running schools and youth cricket, including tours to the UK and elsewhere and Festivals at home including the well established U16 County Festival.
